Amazon’s set-top box could be delayed beyond the 2013 holiday shopping season, reports The Verge. Originally expected to arrive later this fall, the so-called “FireTube” is allegedly a box based on the same forked version of software that’s found in the Kindle Fire devices. It’s said that the set-top box will allow for third party apps, something that could help push it beyond the premise of a simple Amazon Prime content delivery mechanism.
With Amazon Prime streaming service already available in a variety of manners, we’re curious how Amazon positions this box. What makes it worth buying and what’s different from a tablet or the connected TV we own today?
We’d love to see a price point of $99 or less with gaming capability not unlike the OUYA console but we’re not holding our breath.
