In a slightly unorthodox arrangement, ZTE and eBay have launched the first Firefox OS-powered smartphone ZTE Open in the Indian market. The smartphone can now be grabbed from eBay.in for INR 6,990.
The partnership between eBay and ZTE is not new, both companies have also released ZTE Open in UK and US the same way and now they have expanded the tie-up for the Indian market.
“We are delighted to provide Indian consumers access to the ZTE Open, a popular smartphone which is a great option for first-time smart phone users. This was exclusively available on eBay in the U.S. and the U.K., and is now available in India,” Alok Agarwal, Director – Marketing, eBay India told The Hindu in a statement.
The ZTE Open is being offered though an eBay.in seller however Mozilla and ZTE will be handling the marketing for the device in the country.
Originally released in July this year, ZTE Open features a 3.5-inch HVGA display, 1GHz QualcommMSM7225A single core processor, 256MB of RAM and 1200 mAh battery. Clearly, the specifications are no match to the entry-level Android smartphones available for the similar pricing in the country. Mozilla and other Firefox OS smartphone have a long way to go and may be in the future Firefox OS might turn out a decent alternative to Android.
