How To Uproot (or) update Samsung Galaxy Note 2 To Stock Firmware

Using a popular flashing tool called Odin, it is easy to unroot your Samsung Galaxy Note 2 so it would run on a stock firmware again. Unrooting your phone is important especially if you’re planning to claim a warranty for your device. If you’ve rooted your phone already, I assume you already know the importance, advantages and disadvantages of a rooted Galaxy Note 2 so I will not dwell on those things.

Requirements

Before you unroot your GN2, make sure you check the following so you won’t end up messing it up instead.

1. Make sure the USB drivers were installed on your computer. If you did install KIES, you may not face driver issues.
2. Check to see if USB Debugging Mode was enabled. Go to Menu => Settings => Applications => Development => turn on USB Debugging Mode.
3. Make a backup of your important data.
4. Have at least 80% of battery.
5. Your phone should not be locked to a particular carrier.
6. Make sure the model of your device is N7100. Settings => About Phone => Model number.
7. Of course, your phone should be rooted in order to unroot it.

Instructions

Step 1: You need to download Odin and install it on your computer if you haven’t already. [Download]

Step 2: Download stock firmware. [Link]

Step 3: Extract both packages in a directory you can easily access.

Step 4: Launch Odin.

Step 5: Switch off Galaxy Note 2.

Step 6: Boot the phone into Download Mode. Press and hold the Home, Volume Down and Power buttons simultaneously until the screen turns on. Press Volume Up button to enter into the Download Mode.

Step 7: Connect the phone to your computer. Odin will notify you when the phone and computer are bridged. Otherwise, check your drivers.

Step 8: Load necessary files (.tar.md5 file for PDA button, modem for phone button, CSC file for CSC button, .pit file for PIT button). In case only the .tar.md5 file exists, ignore the other three and continue with the process.

Step 9: Under the Options section on Odin, check both Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time options. Uncheck Re-partition.

Step 10: Click the Start button.

Once the flashing was finished, the phone will reboot automatically. Once the device has rebooted, head over Settings => About phone and you’ll see the firmware version is stock.
